CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. (AP) - A Chattanooga teacher has won a $50,000 prize for his work teaching manufacturing, electrical, and plumbing systems at Central High School.
The Chattanooga Times Free Press reports Jerry Webb was surprised with the award on Thursday at the school.
Webb will receive $15,000 to spend at his discretion. The remaining $35,000 goes to the high school to support the skilled trades program.
Webb is a 21-year veteran teacher whose students have created projects that include working with solar power. This year, 93 percent of his students earned an industry certification in solar technology.
The contest is sponsored by Harbor Freight Tools for Schools program.
