WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A fundraising campaign honoring Purdue University student Tyler Trent’s battle with cancer has picked up enough support to top the $100,000 mark.
The Tyler Trent Cancer Research Endowment was set up to support cancer research at Purdue.
Trent has a rare form of bone cancer. He’s gained national attention this fall by become the adopted captain of the Boilermakers football team. He was in a wheelchair for Purdue’s upset win over Ohio State, which was ranked No. 2 at the time.
Purdue Center for Cancer Research development officer Tim Bobillo tells the (Lafayette) Journal & Courier the Trent fund has attracted more than 230 donors. It has contributions and pledges topping $58,000, which are being matched by the Walther Cancer Foundation of Indianapolis.
