SANDY, Utah (AP) - School officials say they have taken action after a baseball player used a racial slur against a player on the opposing team at a high school game in the Salt Lake City area.

KSL-TV reports the Canyons School District launched an investigation Tuesday after multiple people overheard a Brighton High School player direct the slur Monday against a Jordan High School player who is black.

District spokesman Jeff Haney says acts of discrimination are not tolerated and officials “have taken swift and appropriate action.” He says he is prohibited from disclosing what disciplinary action was taken due to privacy laws.

In a statement issued before the two teams were scheduled play again Tuesday, Brighton principal Tom Sherwood says “demeaning comments have no place” in sports, schools and society.
