POWNAL, Vt. (AP) - Vermont transportation officials have accepted a town’s request to study a local stretch of U.S. Route 7 in Pownal after two fatal crashes in the same spot less than a month apart.

Pownal Select Board members wrote in support of the study in March for an approximately 2.5 mile stretch of the state highway where two men died in separate crashes earlier this year.

The Bennington Banner reports Vermont Agency of Transportation Chairman Nelson Brownell said Thursday staff was now looking to install rumble strips and improve signage along the highway.

Brownell says staff will talk to residents before installing rumble strips due to the noise the indentations make.
