Sylvester Stallone’s “John Rambo” may have one more round of heroics left inside of him.
The big-screen adaptation of David Morrell’s novel “First Blood” launched a movie franchise that may finally come to an end with a story involving a Mexican drug cartel. Sources told Deadline Hollywood that Mr. Stallone’s “Expendables” collaborator Avi Lerner will shop the project to industry insiders at Cannes.
“There were whispers [Stallone] may also direct but that doesn’t seem to be the case,” the entertainment website reported Saturday. “Stallone, who starred in and directed the last episode of the series in 2008, is currently working on ’Creed II.’ UK trade Screen International was first out the gate with the news.”
A shooting date is tentatively scheduled for September.
The “Rambo” movies have grossed nearly $710 million worldwide when adjusted for inflation.
Mr. Stallone is also set to begin working on a fourth installment of “The Expendables” after “Creed II” with star Michael B. Jordan finishes filming.
