DALLAS (AP) - In a story May 9 about leaks in natural gas lines in Dallas, The Associated Press reported erroneously about the scope of earlier evacuations of homes. Hundreds of homes were evacuated instead of thousands being forced from their homes.

DALLAS (AP) - New leaks in natural gas lines in a northwestern Dallas neighborhood prompted gas service to be cut to about 45 customers over a four-block area during the weekend.
In a statement Monday, Dallas-based Atmos Energy said the service was cut Saturday after what it called “non-hazardous leaks” were detected. The company said no evacuations were warranted, and new pipe is being installed.
As of Monday afternoon, Atmos said it was restoring natural gas service to more than half of the 45 homes. It believed service would be restored to the rest by Wednesday afternoon. Hot showers were being offered at the Bachman (BAHK’-muhn) Recreation Center.
Widespread leaks nearby forced the evacuation of hundreds of homes earlier this year after a Feb. 23 house explosion killed a 12-year-old girl.
