BARRE, Vt. (AP) - The Vermont Granite Museum is celebrating a new statute recently placed outside the former Barre stone shed that now houses the museum.

On Saturday the 45,000-pouns granite sign that has two six-foot arms, one wielding a hammer and the other a chisel, will be unveiled as part of the museum’s “Heritage Day.”

Saturday is also Vermont’s Green Up Day and people will be welcome to help clean up the museum property and stay for the free, daylong celebration that will include the unveiling of the statue.

The Times Argus reports the museum will be open, and visitors will be able to make their own sculptures out of everything from marble and clay to PVC pipes and rigid and soft foam blocks.
