NEW LONDON, N.H. (AP) - Colby-Sawyer College is kicking off commencement season in New Hampshire.
About 265 students were receiving degrees Saturday at the New London campus, where they heard from U.S. Sen. Jeanne Shaheen, a Democrat who was the first woman in U.S. history to be elected both governor and U.S. senator.
Peggy Stock, who served as the first female president of the college from 1986 to 1995, was being awarded it’s highest honor, the Susan Colgate Cleveland Medal for Distinguished Service.
The New Hampshire College and University Council estimates that more than 20,000 students will graduate from its member schools by the time the season’s last ceremony is held in late June.
