CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia Gov. Jim Justice says revenue collections for last month were above estimates and collections for the year are just shy of year-to-date estimates and above last year.
Justice’s office said in a news release Friday that April’s collections were $535.3 million, which is $23.7 million above estimate and 6.3 percent ahead of last year. The year-to-date collections are more than $3.4 billion, which is nearly 99.9 percent of the estimate and nearly $146 million higher than last year.
Justice’s office also announced that Fitch Ratings assigned a AA bond rating for the $800 million general obligation bond sale for highway construction and upgraded West Virginia’s rating outlook from negative to stable.
The release said personal income tax, withholding tax and sales tax all saw a positive trend. Sales tax collections fell below estimate but were still ahead of last year.
