FORT MILL, S.C. (AP) - Authorities say 14 cars of a freight train have derailed just outside a South Carolina town.
Officials with Norfolk Southern tell local news outlets no one was injured in Friday’s derailment and no hazardous materials were involved. According to authorities, several hopper type cars and other freight cars were off the track.
York County Emergency Management Director Chuck Haynes said emergency crews were on the scene assessing cleanup needs, but said there is no safety or environmental concerns from material spilled from the cars.
