Vermont environmental officials will continue testing drinking water for chemical contamination near a Clarendon airport
CLARENDON, Vt. (AP) - Vermont environmental officials will continue testing drinking water for chemical contamination near a Clarendon airport.
The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation said in a release Wednesday it will extend its investigation around Rutland-Southern Vermont Regional Airport.
Officials confirmed earlier this year high contamination levels of PFAS were found in two wells near the airport. The wells do not serve the airport, but they do serve a nearby business park.
State officials believe firefighting foam used to extinguish a fire from a 1986 plane crash may be the source of the contamination.
Officials are offering bottled water to anyone affected. The state will install residential filter systems when water supplies exceed the health advisory.
