RIVERDALE, Utah (AP) - Recent rains have raised the threat that an expanding landslide will send multiple homes tumbling down a hillside in northern Utah.
A state geologist monitoring the Spring Creek Road Landslide in Riverdale south of Ogden says a sharp drop-off has moved closer to the homes over the past two weeks.
Ben Erickson of the Utah Geological Survey told the Deseret News on Wednesday the loss of homes appears to be “inevitable.”
Residents of three homes were ordered to evacuate in November. The occupants of a fourth house left voluntarily in March.
Dave Morgan has lived for more than a decade in a home close to the ones that were evacuated. He says he and his neighbors are living in limbo with their boxes packed in anticipation of an eventual order to leave.
