Food pantry reopened after hungry burglar ate way through it

OLD ORCHARD BEACH, Maine (AP) - Officials have reopened the Maine church food pantry that a burglar ate his way through earlier this week.

Old Orchard Beach police say the unidentified burglar helped himself to three frozen pizzas and some ice cream at United Methodist Church before vandalizing the building. WGME-TV reports the pantry reopened Wednesday all cleaned and fixed.

Pastor Mike Gray says he believes the burglar got in through a door that was accidently left open overnight Monday.

Former pantry worker Paul Vance says he’s upset about the pantry burglary because the church freely gives food to anyone who comes off the street.

The church’s pastor says services scheduled for Sunday will continue as planned. Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to contact police.
