MOUNT VERNON, Wash. (AP) - Authorities are investigating after a chemical was used to damage 16 of the 18 greens at the Swinomish Golf Links.

The Skagit Valley Herald reports the damage was reported Tuesday afternoon.

Swinomish Police Department Lt. Earl Cowan says several explicit words were written on the course.

Cowan says samples of the unidentified chemical have been sent to a lab for analysis.

Swinomish Indian Tribal Community Chairman Brian Cladoosby says the vandalism could have happened anytime in the week prior to finding the damage because chemicals don’t kill grass immediately.

He says the damage is still being assessed and that the course remains open.

The Swinomish tribe is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the people involved.
