PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (AP) - A heavy house fire has displaced a family in Rhode Island.
The Newport Daily News reports fire officials responded to reports of a fire in Portsmouth shortly after 8:40 p.m. Tuesday.
Portsmouth Fire Chief Michael Cranson says a vehicle in the garage of the home was on fire, which quickly spread through the structure.
Several fire departments from surrounding towns responded to the scene.
The house is no longer inhabitable. A family of three escaped unharmed.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
