OPINION:
Immigration is an important but controversial topic. In some ways its arguments defy logic and confuse the public. On the one hand, shouldn’t we be welcoming all who need or want to come to our shores? On the other hand, no one wants criminals and insurrectionists to be welcomed with open arms.
America has always permitted people to go through due process to enter the country legally. I think most would support continuing this opportunity. True, it has often been a lengthy and exhausting one, but perhaps this has given immigrants a sense of appreciation and gratitude for finally becoming citizens or resident aliens.
One aspect of immigration rarely discussed, however, is the connection between open borders and exploitative behaviors. First and foremost among these is human trafficking. Second is the abuse, sexual exploitation, pedophilia and slavery that frequently go along with trafficking. Third is international insurrection, in which terrorists, ideologues with violent agendas and other enemy operatives are free to travel and cause havoc.
I believe the immigration issue has become a smoke screen to get popular opinion on the side of “freedom for all” while the underlying agenda is to continue to permit or support criminal activities.
