BOISE, Idaho (AP) - Officials with the Idaho Transportation Department say driver’s license services are unavailable throughout the state due to a computer outage.
The transportation agency tells KBOI-TV that Tuesday’s outage stems from technical issues with the vendor software.
ITD has struggled with computer problems for the past year. Last June, the state’s motor vehicle offices were hobbled by outages for several weeks and caused massive delays for customers seeking to renew their licenses. In December, the same delays happened again after a software update to the department’s computer systems.
The state currently has a five-year contract with Amsterdam, Holland-based Gemalto - known primarily for manufacturing SIM cards used in mobile phones and credit cards - worth around $950,000 a year.
