LOGAN, W.Va. (AP) - Students at a West Virginia school say they’re frustrated with the lack of change on their campus since a black student was taken to the floor by a city police officer and arrested.
The Charleston Gazette-Mail reports the Logan High School student, Romeo Johnson, was arrested last year after he refused to remove his hood and leave a hallway.
The day after Johnson’s arrest, his mother filed complaints.
In response, Logan County Schools officials put forward a plan to address criticism, including the formation of a “diversity council” at Logan High.
Students say the group was supposed to meet throughout the school year and work on diversity initiatives, but an October meeting was the first and only one.
Participating students say they were never given a reason for its end.
