FAIR HAVEN, Vt. (AP) - Vermont officials say two people were seriously injured when a fire swept through a house in Fair Haven.

Officials say the two managed to escape before emergency responders arrived Sunday evening and were transported to Rutland Regional Hospital.

Officials say the damage was so extensive that it was unsafe for investigators to enter. The Fair Haven fire chief has requested assistance from the Vermont State Police and the Division of Fire Safety to determine the origin and cause of the fire.

Officials said the victims were later transferred to the University of Vermont Medical Center. Their conditions weren’t available Monday.
