RED BANK, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a man has been charged in the stabbing death of a volunteer firefighter in New Jersey.

The Monmouth County prosecutor’s office says 26-year-old Andrew Hill was stabbed early Sunday in Red Bank and died shortly afterward at Riverview Medical Center.

Prosecutors say 23-year-old Demar Reevey was charged with first-degree murder and third-degree possession of a weapon (a knife) for an unlawful purpose.

NJ.com reports that Hill volunteered for the Westside Hose Company and also the Red Bank First Aid and Rescue Squad, which called him a “very caring, sweet and loving individual.” Red Bank’s mayor says borough flags will be flown at half-staff until his funeral.

A listed number for Reevey couldn’t be found Sunday and it was unclear whether he has an attorney.
