EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A large fire has caused significant damage to part of an East Providence duplex.

Fire crews responded to a fire shortly before 4:30 p.m. Saturday to find flames engulfing the back of the building on New Road.

WPRI-TV reports the fire spread to the attic and caused significant damage throughout the home before the flames were contained.

One adult, two children, and a cat made it out of the home safely when the fire started.

Fire Chief Oscar Elmasian says the day’s high temperatures made it a difficult situation for firefighters.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
