CITRA, Fla. (AP) - Authorities say a Florida sheriff’s deputy fatally shot a man outside a drug treatment facility.
In an Ocala Star-Banner report , Marion County Sheriff’s Office spokesman Paul Bloom said deputies were called to the Phoenix House in Citra on Thursday about a man who had violated his drug-offender probation.
Bloom said the man fled as deputies and a probation officer arrived to arrest him.
Deputies followed the man into a wooded area behind the facility. Bloom said the man then violently confronted them, and one deputy shot him.
The man’s name was not released, pending notification of his family. Officials said he had a criminal history of drug offenses and theft. Bloom said he was sent to Phoenix House as part of his probation.
The deputy who fired at the suspect was placed on administrative leave.
