FARGO, N.D. (AP) - Planting of many crops is getting underway in North Dakota with the warmer spring weather over the past week.
The federal Agriculture Department says in its weekly crop report that about 10 percent of the sugar beet crop is in the ground.
Seeding of spring and durum wheat, canola, oats, barley and dry peas also has begun, though none of those crops is more than 3 percent complete.
About half of the state’s topsoil and subsoil moisture supplies are rated adequate to surplus.
Calving in North Dakota is three-fourths done, with cattle and calf conditions rated mostly fair to good.
Eighty-eight percent of the state’s winter wheat crop is rated fair, good or excellent.
