ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) - Wildlife officials say the fish populations at a southern Utah lake are recovering following the massive wildfire near Brian Head last summer.

The Spectrum reports Utah Division of Wildlife Resources biologists surveyed the fish populations at Panguitch Lake on Tuesday, finding no alarming signs.

Division aquatics manager Richard Hepworth says there were many concerns about health of the populations as ash covered the lake last year.

Hepworth says the lake is still susceptible fish-harming algae blooms because of the nutrients added to the lake from the ash. He says it can take up to three years for the effects of the fire to go away.

The division is exploring options to mitigate the impact should algae blooms occur.
