WEST POINT, Miss. (AP) - A fire has destroyed a 118-year-old home in northeast Mississippi.
West Point Fire Chief Ken Wilbourne says firefighters were called Thursday night. He says they had to dodge ammunition exploding inside the house as they fought the fire.
No one was home at the time of the blaze. Owner Charles McComic says he was visiting relatives.
Multiple media outlets report as of Friday morning, only a chimney and small corner piece of a wall were standing, but McComic says he will rebuild.
Wilbourne says low water pressure in the area meant county firefighters had to shuttle water to their West Point counterparts in tanker trucks.
Officials say they’re still investigating what caused the fire.
Three storage sheds near the house were saved, along with six ducks rescued by firefighters.
