COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - South Carolina’s jobless rate dropped slightly last month as fewer people were looking for work.
The Department of Employment and Workforce said in a news release Friday that unemployment in South Carolina fell to 4.2 percent in April. That’s down from 4.4 percent in March.
The national unemployment rate last month was 3.9 percent.
Manufacturing had the biggest job growth last month, with 900 more jobs. The biggest decline came in the construction segment, with 1,300 fewer jobs.
Fairfield County continued to have the highest unemployment rate at 5.9 percent. Charleston County had the lowest rate at 2.2 percent.
