OPINION:
The media has a strange characterization of recent events on the Israeli border. Even an article in The Washington Times uses the word “protest” and the phrase “in Gaza” (“Israel faces diplomatic fallout after dozens killed in Gaza,” Web, May 15). These are glaring errors.
The activity of the Palestinians this week was not a protest. It was a full-fledged attack. Anytime a mob starts throwing Molotov cocktails and rocks, shooting stones with slingshots, starting fires with kites, etc., it is not a protest but an attack. And the attack was against the border between the Palestinian territories and Israel. It was an attempt by Hamas to breach the Israeli border by force.
The fact that Hamas is willing to put women and children in the midst of an attacking force is not only criminal but also immoral. U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley was correct when she said that no country represented in the United Nations would have responded with less force. The headline for this Times article should have been “59 Palestinians killed as they attempted to invade Israel.”
