RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) - Officials in North Carolina say a fight broke out at a prison, and two inmates were taken to a hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

A spokesman for the Department of Public Safety said the fight occurred Sunday at Alexander Correctional Institution in Taylorsville. A department news release said the inmates assaulted each other with homemade weapons and crutches.

According to the department, correctional officers broke up the incident, which took place in the recreation area near the basketball court.

No staff were injured during the incident, which is under investigation.
