CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming Highway Patrol trooper is recovering after being injured in an accident during a car chase.

The patrol hasn’t released the trooper’s name but says he is in stable condition at a Utah hospital.

The patrol says the incident began about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday near Evanston when the trooper tried to stop a pickup truck that ran a stop sign. The ensuing chase exceeded speeds of 100 mph (160 kph).

The pickup finally slowed down when its tires were deflated by spikes deployed by police on U.S. 189. However, the pursuing trooper had to swerve to avoid colliding with the pickup and lost control of his patrol car, which overturned several times.

The pickup driver was eventually apprehended despite firing a weapon at officers. No one else was hurt.
