Police: Pregnant woman, 20, shot and killed in Virginia

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (AP) - A 20-year-old pregnant woman who was shot while driving a car in Virginia has died.

Newport News police spokesman Brandon Maynard tells the Daily Press that Tiara Jefferson and a 23-year-old man were found shot inside a car that had crashed early Thursday. A 21-month-old child was also in the car.

Police learned Jefferson was driving when someone fired at the car. All three crash victims were hospitalized.

Jefferson died around an hour later at the hospital. She was 15 weeks pregnant.

Police say the toddler was Jefferson’s child and was not hurt. The unidentified man’s injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Maynard said no information is available on a suspect.
