CARSON CITY, Nev. (AP) - A Nevada inmate who walked away from a prison camp in Carson City was recaptured about 12 hours later while walking near a highway toward Lake Tahoe.

State corrections officials say 28-year-old Billy Joe Williamson II was discovered missing at about 1 a.m. Tuesday from his bunk at the Stewart Conservation Camp where he was serving up to 30 years for attempting to steal a car in Washoe County last year.

Spokeswoman Brooke Santina says investigators with the Department of Corrections Inspector General’s office spotted him walking near U.S. Highway 50 at about noon. She says they took him into custody without incident and he’s being returned to the state prison in Carson City.
