WAREHAM, Mass. (AP) - Police have arrested the suspected hit-and-run driver that struck and seriously injured a firefighter responding to a traffic incident during last week’s powerful nor’easter.

Authorities said Monday 28-year-old Paul Durgin, of Sandwich, is facing charges of leaving the scene of an accident with injury, reckless operation of a motor vehicle and assault and battery.

Police say Durgin struck a firefighter who was working in Wareham Friday during the height of the storm. The unidentified, 25-year-old firefighter was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

Police say they received several tips through their “text-a-tip” program and traced Durgin to the Knights Inn in Barnstable.

It is unclear if he has an attorney.
