Natchez seeks $1.9 million loan for water improvements

NATCHEZ, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi city is seeking a $1.9 million loan from the state Department of Health to help improve the city’s water system.

The Natchez Democrat reports the loan would cover a majority of the $2.5-million plan for improvements across Natchez. The plan includes upgrades to some water lines and installing new generators at the Cedar Lane water plant, among others.

City leaders approved an application for the loan Tuesday night. Natchez Water Works Superintendent Tony Moon has said his department would be responsible for repaying the loan with annual payments totaling $120,000 to $155,000.

The city held a public hearing this week on whether it will use a Community Development Block Grant to fund the remaining $600,000.
