OPINION:
I am glad that social media users and government officials are now interested in some sort of right to privacy (“Facebook under fire as prosecutors, Congress confirm investigation,” Web, March 26). I don’t think online companies, such as Facebook, should be allowed to collect any personal information or track the online activities of their users. In fact, I don’t think that “off-line” companies should be allowed to store, use or sell the personal information of their customers, either.
We need a national law stating that no corporation, government agency or group may sell any personal information without the prior written permission of the information’s owner. If the owner gives permission, then the corporation should be required to give at least half of the money to that person.
“Big Brother” can come from “big government” or “big business.” It is time for the “little people” to stand up for their right to privacy.
