OPINION:
When will gun-control activists get informed of actual facts? There is no “gun show loophole” or “online purchase loophole.” For online purchases, a seller must ship the gun to a licensed dealer, who must then run a background check before handing the gun over to the buyer. A dealer at a gun show must also run a background check before the gun changes hands. Sometimes these are completed within minutes, sometimes in a day or two.
The real “loopholes” are the “private sale loophole” (someone who sells a gun but is not in business to do so) and the “data loophole” (when some military, mental-health and court-order records are not entered in the background-check database). Want to reduce gun violence? Close the real loopholes rather than tilt at imaginary ones.
