IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) - Iowa point guard Connor McCaffery has been granted a hardship waiver by the Big Ten, leaving him with four seasons of eligibility remaining.

The league announced Monday it had approved McCaffery’s petition after he played just four games as a true freshman.

McCaffery, the son of coach Fran McCaffery, missed two games with a sprained ankle, eight games with mononucleosis and 19 games after undergoing a tonsillectomy in December.

A healthy McCaffery could be in line to start next season and allow Jordan Bohannon to play more off the ball.

Iowa finished 14-19 in 2017-18, pushing Final Four-bound Michigan to overtime in its finale in the Big Ten tournament.
