HAMILTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Fire officials in a New Jersey town evacuated local businesses because of a gas leak caused by a construction mistake.

Police say contractors accidentally hit a gas main Monday morning in Hamilton Township. Authorities in the immediate vicinity were evacuated later that day as a safety precaution.

Officials closed off the street as crews worked to fix the main.

No injuries were reported.
