OPINION:
It is time to say goodbye and good riddance to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). There are better ways to spend the $70 billion that SNAP receives. I don’t believe the box-food program would work as a replacement, though. The poor and disabled who use SNAP would be better off using food pantries for their food needs.
With $70 billion we can do five things, and give each $14 billion: 1. Shore up our military. 2. Build the border wall. 3. Fund Medicare. 4. Fund Medicaid, and 5. Invest in failing infrastructure.
When SNAP is abolished it will be tough for the first few months, but then everyone will adjust to the new normal, including businesses that participated in SNAP. Let’s get rid of this program, not replace it and demand that Congress and President Trump do the right things with the money.
