CHELMSFORD, Mass. (AP) - Massachusetts State Police say a man involved in a car crash carjacked another vehicle on the interstate, crashed the stolen vehicle and attempted to carjack two more vehicles before he was stopped by police.
Police say the 42-year-old man was driving a vehicle involved in a multi-car crash on Interstate 495 in Chelmsford at about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. A tractor-trailer had jackknifed and blocked the right two lanes of traffic.
Authorities say the man left his vehicle and used a hatchet to carjack another vehicle. He crashed into two other vehicles, and then tried unsuccessfully to carjack two more cars.
Troopers used a stun gun to take the man into custody.
The man, identified as Marcos Garcia, of Lawrence, was taken to a hospital. His condition was not disclosed.
