GILTNER, Neb. (AP) - Authorities say a North Carolina woman walking along Interstate 80 in central Nebraska was hit and killed by a passing semitrailer, and the trucker was later arrested.

The Nebraska State Patrol says the incident occurred around 1 a.m. Thursday near the Giltner interchange. The patrol says 26-year-old India Marie Simpson, of Waxhaw, North Carolina, had been a passenger in a pickup truck that broke down. Investigators say she was walking on the shoulder to a tow truck when the semi entered the shoulder and hit her. She died at the scene.

The driver of the semi, 29-year-old Victor Genetti, of Sugar Creek, Missouri, was arrested on suspicion of motor vehicle homicide and failing to move over to avoid a stopped vehicle.
