CENTERVILLE, Utah (AP) - Authorities in Utah say motorists helped officers pull two teenagers from a burning vehicle following a head-on crash that killed one person.
Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Nick Street tells the Deseret News a sedan with two 16-year-olds inside sped along the shoulder of a busy parkway before veering into oncoming traffic and slamming into another car, killing the male driver about 7 a.m. Friday in Centerville.
Street says a Centerville police officer who used a baton to break windows and reach the passenger in the burning car was later treated at a hospital for cuts and smoke inhalation.
Passers-by and a Highway Patrol trooper helped remove the driver.
Both teens were flown by medical helicopter to local hospitals with what Street said appeared to be broken bones and internal injuries.
