PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The House Finance Committee is poised to unveil its version of a $9.3 billion state spending plan.

The committee plans to vote Friday. The budget then moves to the House floor.

The speaker’s office says they’re trying to end the legislative session on June 22. The new fiscal year begins July 1.

Democratic House Speaker Nicholas Mattiello told The Providence Journal on Wednesday that budget negotiators were close to finalizing a deal and there were no major sticking points. He confirmed they plan to ask voters to approve a $250 million bond for school construction.

Last year the budget wasn’t passed on time because of a disagreement between the chambers over phasing out the car tax. The stalemate caused uncertainty for local governments and school districts.
