TEHRAN, Iran (AP) - Iran’s official news agency says gunmen shot and killed two Iranian border guards near the border with Iraq.

IRNA says the guards, both sergeant majors, died in a shootout late Tuesday near the border town of Sardasht.

It was not immediately clear who was behind the shooting, but Kurdish separatists and Islamic extremists have carried out previous attacks in the region.
