BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota Gov. Doug Burgum has appointed two new citizen members to the state Board of Higher Education, including a school superintendent who survived an effort to oust her from her job.
Burgum announced Tuesday that New Rockford-Sheyenne Superintendent Jill Louters and Devils Lake attorney Daniel Traynor will begin serving four-year terms on July 1. Burgum also selected Ashley Thornton of Williston State College as the student member to the board.
Louters was investigated by the New Rockford-Sheyenne School Board president for staying in the same hotel room with her son and elementary school boys during an archery tournament in March. A vote to fire Louters failed by a 4-2 vote.
The board has eight voting members appointed by the governor to oversee the system’s 11 public colleges and universities.
