Orphaned baby deer rescued

COVENTRY, R.I. (AP) - Wildlife experts in Rhode Island are nursing a young orphaned deer that was rescued over the weekend.

WPRI-TV reports a hiker in the Maxwell Mays Wildlife Refuge contacted Coventry police Sunday when he saw the distressed fawn. A wildlife doctor determined the fawn was orphaned before Coventry Animal Control officers took the fawn to the Wildlife Rehabilitators Association of Rhode Island’s Saunderstown clinic.

WRARI said in a Facebook post that people shouldn’t disturb baby deer unless they’re “crying or otherwise distressed.” The organization advised people to contact the clinic if an animal needs help.
