CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - A pedestrian has died in a hospital several days after being struck by a police officer’s patrol car in North Carolina.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said in a news release that 80-year-old Arnulfo Salazar died Sunday morning at Carolinas Medical Center.

Salazar was hit Thursday evening. Police say Salazar was standing in the median and crossed a road in front of Officer Jeffrey Page’s patrol car. Page stopped immediately and helped Salazar until emergency medical workers arrived.

Witnesses said Salazar was not in a marked cross walk and was not wearing reflective clothing. Witnesses said it was raining and traffic near the crash scene was light.
