JENNINGS, La. (AP) - Jennings Police Department’s interim chief is now permanently in charge.
On Thursday, Danny Semmes was chosen from five applicants for the post he’s temporarily held since December.
A 32-year law enforcement veteran, Semmes began his career as a reserve officer for the Jeff Davis Parish Sheriff’s Office and worked as an officer at then-University of Southwestern Louisiana (now University of Louisiana at Lafayette). He later returned to the sheriff’s office, working in several departments. In 2008, he joined the Jennings Police Department and was named deputy chief in 2010.
He was named interim police when Chief Todd D’Albor resigned to become police chief in New Iberia.
Semmes says he’s very excited about the appointment.
The department currently has 28 officers, but Semmes would like to increase the roster to 35.
