NEWPORT, Vt. (AP) - The northern Vermont city of Newport is celebrating its 100-year history with a week of events.

The Caledonian Record reports that in 1918 the village of Newport and the town of West Derby merged to become the city of Newport.

The centennial celebration runs through Friday, July 6.

On Saturday, the city is holding a parade downtown. There will also be kids’ activities, a food and craft market, historical displays, live music, an air show, and an 18th century military encampment at Prouty Beach on Lake Memphremagog.

A schedule of events can be found on the Newport Parks & Recreation website.
