OPINION:
In just a few days in 1944, American troops, along with our allies, stormed ashore in France to crush Nazi aggression. Later that decade, the Marshall Plan essentially rebuilt Europe from the ground up. It seems that ever since that time our “allies” have assumed that the Marshall Plan was to be a lifetime contract (“Trump tariffs on U.S. allies draw retaliation threats,” Web, May 31).
Finally, a businessman president says enough is enough. America will not continue to be a sucker for European Marxists and their Democratic supporters in this country. President Trump said exactly what President Truman should have made clear: Fair trade must be fair.
No longer will the American citizen be the beast of burden for irresponsible economic, political and social misbehavior in Europe, Canada and all of Latin America.
The business of American government is business. The goal is to not to loose your shirt in one-sided deals. Will this act cause some squealing from those Americans and dual-citizenship hucksters who have profited unjustly? Well, yes — and good.
