JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Mississippi Insurance Commissioner Mike Chaney says the state’s largest hospital is putting off its split with the state’s largest private insurer.
Chaney said Friday that the University of Mississippi Medical Center has agreed to keep doing business under its current contract with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Mississippi through the end of July.
The Republican insurance commissioner says both sides have agreed to meet with a mediator, as Chaney suggested earlier.
The medical center said in April that it would end its Blue Cross contract on Saturday, attempting to force the Flowood-based insurer to negotiate different contract terms.
The reprieve means the medical center will continue accepting in-network rates paid by Blue Cross and that patients won’t be responsible for paying any additional amount the medical center might demand.
